About our cause
The Beatrice Charity runs canal trips for children with additional educational needs from special schools in North Staffordshire; for groups benefitting from our accessible facilities; and fund-raising trips for family or social groups. Founded in 1978 the charity holds the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service 2019 and on average we welcome 625 children per year. When children leave school they lose the stimulation (and fun) of our trips so we are keen to extend our work to adults with learning and other cognitive disabilities.
We need your help to continue and expand our service! All our crew members are volunteers, as are our trustees (and we are keen to recruit both crew and trustees). It costs about £7,000 a year to run Beatrice - the current boat was launched in 2001 and needs to be kept in first-rate condition.
Thank you for your support and good luck!
